Hand Washed Oriental & Area Rugs
Oriental rugs cannot be cared for like your carpet. Fine oriental rugs are very costly and are made from fragile natural fibers, dyes and foundation materials that cannot be cleaned in the way we usually clean synthetic carpets. Regular maintenance and cleaning is necessary to ensure your rugs look gorgeous for many years to come. Especially when it comes to delicate rugs like oriental rugs, hand washing is the best method. The efficiency and special attention given to hand washed rugs provides cleaner results. Natural fibers have the ability to hide dirt, however, hand washing allows our cleaning experts to provide the necessary attention required to make them exceptionally clean.
Our Oriental & Area Rug Cleaning Process
Golden Knots Rug Cleaning has a state of the art cleaning facility. We have the equipment and knowledge to clean any type of rug or carpet. Every rug is carefully inspected before cleaning. The rug is categorized, pre-existing conditions are noted, it’s measured and photographed.
Loose dirt and dust that gets removed before cleaning. Up to 80% of the soil in a rug is loose and embedded deeply in the pile of the rug. This must be removed before the wash process begins. With repeated applications of water, specialty formulated soup, softener and a neutralizer are applied to the rug and scrubbed clean.
After the hand washing is completed the rug is thoroughly rinsed out removing all of the dirt and soap residue. Proper rinsing is critical and it ensures the rug will not attract soil. The neutralizing agent applied to the rug leaves the fibers at a PH range of 6.5 to 7.0. The fringes are the last to be cleaned. Most Fringes are made of cotton and need to be cleaned differently than the wool pile. They are carefully hand washed and completed rinsed, neutralized and returned to their original brilliance.
We dry your rug as carefully as we wash them in our temperature and humidity control dry room. Our conveyors are dump and hung vertically to allow heated air to pass over the front and back of the rugs to ensure they are completely dry. The temperature in the dry room is an excess of 120 degrees to make sure that bacteria and mildew do not develop. Proper drying is critical.
When the rug comes out of the dry room it is carefully inspected, boomed, vacuumed and ready to go home with you!
